Michael Williams – Chair Cobb Young Republicans

presents:

The Generational Gap on the Right

Michael Williams is the current Chairman of the Cobb Young Republicans and a former Vice Chairman of Georgia Tea Party. As a college student during the finally years of the Bush administration, it was the election of Barack Obama that first spurred Michael to get off the couch and get involved in the changing political landscape of the late 2000’s. When the modern Tea Party movement was birthed in 2009, he was a volunteer and public speaker working on some of the original Tax Day Tea Party events and was quickly invited to join the original Board of Directors of Georgia Tea Party.

For the next 4 years, Michael served as a meeting organizer, legislative lobbyist, merchandise salesman, newsletter writer, public speaker, and spokesman, among numerous other roles. In 2010, the AJC reported that he had emerged as a “key organizer” in the movement (though he personally believes that was an exaggeration). In 2012, he was named Georgia Tea Party’s Vice Chairman. In 2013, Michael stepped down from the Board of Directors at the end of his second term, to focus on his career and personal life. Quickly discovering that stepping away from the political world simply wasn’t an option for him, Michael joined the leadership team of Cobb Young Republicans in 2014. Serving first as Vice Chair of Membership and then as Vice Chairman, Michael finally agreed to accept the Chairman’s role in 2017. Cobb Young Republicans currently has the second-largest membership roster among YR clubs in Georgia and holds monthly membership meetings on the third Wednesday of every month in Marietta. Michael is also in his second term representing Cobb County on the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee.

In his non-political life, Michael is a grateful member of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, an unapologetic professional wrestling enthusiast, and works as a premium auditor and loss control consultant in the insurance industry.
